Keeping your home clean is important, and nowhere is it more of a challenge than in the kitchen. But before you pull out all those harsh chemicals, it’s worth remembering that a lot of options exist for green cleaning in the kitchen. If you have a few basic items, you’d be amazed at what you can do. Here are some of our favorite tips.
- Avoid using those caustic drain cleaners that can damage your pipes and septic system. Start with pouring boiling water down the drain – you’d be surprised at the results this can give you.
- For added drain health, pour ¼ cup baking soda and then ½ cup vinegar down your drains and let it sit for 20 minutes. Follow up with boiling water.
- Use salt on your stovetops for stains. Sprinkle some salt on the stovetop, tip a toothbrush in baking soda, and scrub away. There’s no need for harsh cleaners.
- Do you have that nasty microwave interior that most of us do? Mix 1 cup water with ¼ cup vinegar and boil it for 3 minutes in the microwave. Then, let it stand for about 10 to 15 minutes. Once you remove it, wiping down the interior with a damp cloth will take care of the mess.
